P5: Conduct testing on the finished interactive media product
At 00:00 you can see me clicking my app icon, showing that the app does load quite quickly and efficiently, and not only does it load reasonably quickly, the quality once it has loaded is very good meaning that it has been optimised well.
At 00:09 you see my first form of interactivity, which is clicking from button to button. There is no delay or any sign of lagging when pressing the buttons and going from page to page so this is all working well. Here you also see my second form of interactivity- my map, the map loads very clearly and you are able to zoom in and out relatively smoothly.
At 00:40 you see my third interactivity which is a youtube video. You can see from this point myself demonstrating how the video works.
At 01:18 I demonstrate my fourth and final interactivity, which is a scrolling piece of text.
Test plan In order to test my app, I'm going to gather some target audience feedback from a group of students. I will gather this feedback by getting the students to look at my app and see how it works. By doing this it will enable me to collect some audience feedback and get a sense of what my audience want from the app. I'm planning to do this in the form of a survey (the one seen above) and a couple of focus groups. The questions covered within the survey are:
Is my app fully functional? E.g. working internal/ external navigation, content loads/ works.
All of these questions focus on the functionality of my app. This is because they will let me know how and if everything is working internally and externally through navigation, and also that everything loads all together. 2. Is my app useable, for example is the navigation clear? By asking this question it will allow me to understand the usability of my app and how the audience find the navigation because it is very important that this is easy and simple. 3. Are you able to interact with my app? This question is crucial in helping me understand the interactivity of my app and how my audience are able to interact with it. The client was very clear that the app must include at least 2 interactive features so it is very important that I know about this. 4. Are the loading times okay? This question will help my understanding of the loading times of my app, and not only how long it takes to launch, but also how long it takes to load pictures, and text etc. 5. Is my app of a high professional standard? By asking this question it allows me to understand the completeness of my app, and whether or not it looks finished. This is important because an app that looks amateurish is very unappealing. 6. Is my app accurate? E.g. are there any mistakes? This question covers accuracy and whether or not everything in the app is accurate or not, for example information and spelling. This is important as I could be accused of lying or misleading users otherwise. 7. Is my app accessible, for example easy to read and is the text size okay? This covers accessibility and how easy or not the app is to use. This is very important- the app must be easy to use because of the vast age range of my target audience. 8. Does my app perform well? For example is the optimisation to a good standard? This question covers optimisation and performance. This is obviously important because if the optimisation isn't good it could affect the navigation etc.
The point of all these questions is because they will help me understand whether my app is working to its full potential, and if not, what I need to change to make it do so. The feedback is also useful because it will help me improve my app overall, for example even just the aesthetics. This will also all help my app meet the client brief, therefore these questions are very beneficial.
00:34- Is my app fully functional? E.g working internal/external navigation, content loads/works? 01:04- Is my app useable, for example is the navigation clear? 01:27- Are you able to interact with my app? 01:49- Are the loading times okay? 02:03- Is my app of a high professional standard? 02:31- Is my app accurate e.g. are there any mistakes? 02:48- Is my app easy to read? Is the text size okay? 03:09- Does my app perform well, for example is the optimisation to a good standard?
00:04- Is my app fully functional? E.g working internal/external navigation, content loads/works? 00:34- Is my app useable, for example is the navigation clear? 00:59- Are you able to interact with my app? 01:26- Are the loading times okay? 01:40- Is my app of a high professional standard? 02:00- Is my app accurate e.g. are there any mistakes? 02:48- Is my app easy to read? Is the text size okay? 03:30- Does my app perform well, for example is the optimisation to a good standard?
Actions on audience feedback After recording two different focus groups I gathered a fair bit of audience feedback from my target audience. Most of the feedback was positive thank fully but there were a couple of things that they suggested I could improve.
02:48- Charlotte mentioned at one point that the text size was a little bit too small, because I has squashed quite a lot f text on one page, therefore in order to fit it on I made it smaller. As the text was done in photoshop and was part of the background it was also a little bit distorted.
02:48- Andrew however (on the other video) mentioned how he thought that the colours used made the app very readable, and that the text was also easy to read.
I thought that although one of these comment was a positive thing, it showed how my app wasn't really consistent in terms of meeting the needs of all target audience members, as only one of these two felt they could read the text easily, therefore highlighting a flaw in my app.
What will you change in the app as a result of this feedback? The results from both my survey and my focus groups highlighted that the main issue with my app was the text size. I will definitely change this as it was pretty much the only negative feedback I got, and it isn't exactly a difficult thing to change. This is very important because as I touched on before, it was my aim to make the app suitable for everyone within my target audience demographic, and it was picked up here that wasn't the case. Charlotte struggled to read the text whereas Andy did not, meaning my objective had not been met because they did not share an equally as pleasant experience of the app.
How have you made these changes? To make this change, instead of simply making the font bigger and keeping it on the background therefore doing it in photoshop, I would to it actually in Xcode. I think this would be much better overall because not only would it mean that the text size could be change easier, but it also means that it wouldn't be so distorted as it would be in a textbox which is built into the app itself, instead of just being part of the background image like before.
